The plight of the residents of Bode Saadu in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara continues following last Wednesday’s heavy intermittent rains that led to devastating floods. The natural disaster has engulfed many homes and forced many residents to flee the area, seeking refuge elsewhere.
Located on the Ilorin-Jebba Federal Highway, a few kilometres from Jebba Dam, Bode Saadu community is regularly plagued by floods. This time, it is the one bearing the brunt of the disaster, which resulted from the inability of the high flow of water to pass through the makeshift bridge on the expressway.
Following his visit to the affected areas, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq expressed condolences with the victims and immediately directed the State Emergency Management Agency to provide relief to the affected areas. Engineers also inspected the area to find sustainable solutions to prevent such tragedies in the future.
The governor noted that the reason some buildings were not affected was largely because they were located on flood plains, warning against building houses in such areas.
Accompanied by the Commissioner for Special Affairs, Mr. John Bello, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Affairs, AbdulRasaq Jiddah, the governor visited the affected areas of the community to witness the extent of the damage first-hand.
To the praise of residents for his responsiveness, the governor reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of the people and urged residents to adhere to proper building standards to prevent such tragedies.
In conclusion, the governor’s visit and the measures taken to support the victims are helping to bring relief to the community and to consider sustainable solutions to prevent similar disasters in the future.
