Delayed start of school year in Kinshasa: Ntemo complex under rehabilitation

Fatshimetrie, September 19, 2024 (ACP): The start of the school year for more than 1,015 students at the Ntemo school complex, located in the commune of Mont-Ngafula in Kinshasa, has been delayed due to renovation work on the school’s buildings. According to Vincent Madila, the school’s director, parents have been asked to keep their children at home until the work is completed and classrooms are available again.

The decision to postpone the start of the school year was taken as a safety measure, following the significant damage caused by a violent tornado last March. The last thing we want is for students to return to unsecured premises. The Mos Service company in charge of the works assured that the latter would be completed before the start of the school year initially scheduled for September 2, 2024.

The EP Ntemo school complex, built on the ruins of the old Sainte Marie primary school, has a rich history, dating back to the colonial era when the Congregation of Jesuit Fathers created it. This school has always been a pillar of education in the region, training generations of students.

It is essential to emphasize the importance of the rehabilitation of these school buildings to ensure a safe learning environment conducive to the development of students. Education being a fundamental pillar for the development of a nation, it is essential to invest in school infrastructure to guarantee a better future for the young generations.

In conclusion, the delay in the start of the school year at the Ntemo complex is a reminder of the importance of the safety of school infrastructure. Let us hope that the rehabilitation work will be completed quickly so that students can return to school and continue their education in a safe environment that is adapted to their needs.
