Transformation in progress: Enugu State Governor unveils ambitious plan for the future

In his speech at the Standing Committee meeting of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion in Enugu, the State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, stressed his determination to renovate the social infrastructure in the area. He also reaffirmed his commitment to combating poverty, boosting the state’s economy and enhancing security, casting aside all forms of political correctness.

Governor Mbah highlighted his ambitious vision of propelling the Enugu State economy into the top three in Nigeria, while aiming for zero percent poverty rate. He stressed that these targets are not just empty promises but require serious and consistent efforts.

He highlighted the importance of security as a key pillar to achieving these targets. The Governor stressed that the fight against insecurity must not suffer from any complacency or political correctness. He exemplified this posture by ending the illegal “stay at home” order imposed by a small criminal faction in Enugu State.

The use of cutting-edge technology was also highlighted as a key strategy to enhance security. The governor announced the imminent launch of a real-time surveillance platform for major streets in the capital, combining human and artificial intelligence to ensure effective surveillance.

Furthermore, Governor Mbah affirmed that education is a crucial lever for socio-economic development. He has allocated a major portion of the state budget to education for the year 2024, with the establishment of 260 Smart Green Schools aimed at preparing the state’s youth for the future.

Furthermore, the Governor highlighted the importance of disruptive innovations in key areas such as health, water supply, transport infrastructure, agriculture, with the aim of reviving declining state assets, supporting SMEs, enhancing youth skills and making Enugu an investor haven and a preferred choice for investments.

The Governor highlighted the State’s recent successes in attracting investments, highlighting key partnerships such as the revitalization of the state-owned Palm Products Ltd and the signing of an agreement with Danish company ODK Tractors for the local assembly of tractors.

Concluding, Governor Mbah sought the continued support of the Church and the citizenry to support the transformation of Enugu State. He stressed that despite the challenges faced, the potential benefits of this journey transcend temporary difficulties. The journey ahead to reinvent Enugu State remains challenging, but the rewards promised are well worth it.
