A decisive step towards public health and strengthening bilateral relations has been taken with the signing of a crucial agreement between Japan and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Japan has committed to providing monkeypox (MPOX) vaccines to the DRC, as part of a major international collaboration to combat health crises.

The signing ceremony, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kinshasa, was attended by Gracia Yamba Kazadi, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the DRC, and Ogawa Hidetoshi, Japanese Ambassador to the DRC. Both parties stressed the importance of this agreement for the well-being of Congolese citizens and cooperation between the two nations.

In her speech, Gracia Yamba Kazadi praised Japan’s commitment to the DRC in combating health crises. She stressed that this vaccine supply agreement, accompanied by bifurcated needles, demonstrates international solidarity in public health. This initiative aims to strengthen vaccination capacities in the DRC and protect the population against monkeypox.

For his part, Ogawa Hidetoshi pledged to ensure effective coordination for the delivery of vaccines and the implementation of an effective vaccination campaign. He stressed the importance of cooperation between the Congolese government, international organizations and Japan to overcome the health crisis linked to monkeypox.

In addition, the signing of an amendment agreement for the relaunch of the project to build a Judo Training Center for the Congolese National Police was another highlight of the day. This project, funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), demonstrates Japan’s commitment to strengthening the capacities of security forces in the DRC.

In a context where international cooperation is more necessary than ever to address global health challenges, this agreement between Japan and the DRC marks a crucial step forward. It paves the way for enhanced collaboration between the two nations, in a spirit of win-win partnership, to ensure the health and well-being of populations.
