Kinshasa, September 18, 2024 (Fatshimetrie) – In the commune of Ngaliema in Kinshasa, women members of the non-profit organization “Femmes en Action” recently participated in an awareness day on the importance of using contraceptives to avoid unwanted pregnancies. This initiative, led by Lydie Makambu, president of the organization, aims to inform and educate women on the different contraceptive methods available, such as female condoms, implants and pills.
During this day of sharing, women were encouraged to use abstinence, which is also an effective method to prevent sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Delicia Mambu, vice-coordinator of the non-profit organization, stressed the importance of raising awareness about STIs, which can have serious consequences such as paralysis, sterility and impotence.
Participants were also reminded of the importance of using condoms correctly in preventing STIs, thus highlighting the importance of protection against these infections and diseases. “Les Femmes en Action”, founded in 2012, is actively involved in defending the rights of vulnerable women, including unemployed women and young mothers in difficulty.
This initiative highlights the commitment of Congolese civil society to raise awareness and educate women on sexual and reproductive health, thus providing women with the means to make informed decisions about their own health and well-being. By encouraging the use of contraceptives and raising awareness of STIs, these actions contribute to the empowerment of women and the promotion of sexual health in the community.
This awareness day demonstrates the desire of the non-profit organization “Femmes en Action” to play an active role in the education and emancipation of women, by providing them with the tools they need to take control of their lives and health. By joining forces to defend these essential causes, the members of the organization demonstrate their determination to advance the cause of women in the DRC and to contribute to the construction of a more equitable and inclusive society for all.
