A new article from Fatshimetrie: The fight against sexual harassment at the OAUTH of Ile-Ife

Fatshimetrie’s new article addresses a critical issue at Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital (OAUTH) in Ile-Ife, Nigeria. Professor John Okeniyi, the hospital’s medical director, recently took a radical step to combat sexual harassment at the hospital: the removal of beds located in multiple offices.

During a press briefing, Professor Okeniyi explained that these beds could potentially arouse inappropriate sexual urges, contributing to an environment conducive to harassment. In response, a new anti-sexual harassment law has been implemented at the institution.

Ignorance will no longer be an excuse for those who violate the law. The message is clear: any harassing behavior will be severely punished, without concession. Professor Okeniyi stressed that transgressions will not go unpunished and that deterrent measures will be taken against offenders. A transparency policy will also be put in place, with the names of harassers being published on the Internet, in order to confront them with their actions.

To avoid any situation conducive to harassment, the director announced that he would personally supervise the removal of beds from offices, which were being used under the pretext of night work. He recalled that night shifts are not meant for rest, but for the accomplishment of professional tasks.

This initiative marks an important step in the fight against sexual harassment within OAUTH in Ile-Ife. By erecting strict measures and promoting a culture of respect and professional ethics, the hospital is committed to ensuring a healthy and safe environment for all its staff.
