Fatshimetrie, September 17, 2024 – The Higher Institute of Medical Techniques (ISTM) of Uvira, located in the South Kivu province of the Democratic Republic of Congo, recently celebrated the graduation of 159 nurses during a ceremony marking the closing of the 2023-2024 academic year. According to Assistant Michel Kanyegere, the administrative secretary general of the institution, of the 284 candidates who took the exam, 159 were admitted, representing a success rate of 56%. This promotion allowed the ISTM of Uvira to train health professionals ready to serve their community.
During the ceremony, the graduates were encouraged to become ambassadors of the ISTM, to put into practice the knowledge acquired and to actively contribute to the health sector. The objective for the coming academic year is to strengthen the achievements of the institution and improve the training provided to students. ISTM officials are committed to promoting activities with a social impact, such as awareness campaigns on local and international health issues, in partnership with non-governmental organizations.
Developing partnerships with other institutions, such as the Official University of Bukavu, ISTM Lubumbashi and ISTM Kinshasa, will provide students with opportunities for further studies and international mobility. In addition, postgraduate research programs in the fields of community health and nursing will be established to meet the specific needs of the population.
In short, ISTM Uvira is committed to playing a key role in the development of the city by training qualified health professionals and implementing social initiatives to improve the living conditions of residents. This academic graduation ceremony marks an important step towards a future where the health and well-being of the community will be at the heart of concerns.
