The 2025 Budget in the D.R. Congo: Ambitions and Challenges for the Future

Fiscal policy is at the heart of the news in Kinshasa, as the 2025 budget proposal was tabled in the National Assembly by Judith Suminwa. This budget proposal, estimated at USD 18 billion, represents a significant increase compared to the previous year, reflecting the economic and social ambitions of the current government.

The Prime Minister, in her statements, highlighted the impact of external shocks such as the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, as well as internal tensions. Despite these challenges, the government is showing its determination to ensure the country’s macroeconomic stability and meet the growing needs of the population.

This budget provides for strategic investments in local development, exchange rate stabilization, road and river infrastructure, and economic diversification. The objective is clear: to attract more private investors, improve the business climate and ensure peace and security throughout the territory, particularly in conflict-affected regions such as the east of the country.

In this context, the Association of Consumers of Food Products recommends the adoption of a law on consumer protection to address the difficulties encountered on a daily basis, such as the high cost of living, transport problems, access to water and electricity.

The parliamentary session therefore promises to be rich in discussions and issues, with decisions that will have a major impact on the future of the country. The expectations of the Congolese are high, and they hope for concrete commitments from their elected representatives to meet current challenges and build a better future for all.

In short, this 2025 budget project reflects the government’s desire to meet the country’s needs, to stimulate economic and social development, while ensuring stability and security on a national scale. It remains to be hoped that actions will follow words, and that the results will benefit the entire Congolese population.
