Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State recently appealed to members of the National Youth Corps (NYSC) to engage in productive activities while avoiding anti-social behaviour. While closing the 2024 Batch Orientation Camp programme in Oyo State, the governor stressed the importance of the youths using the skills acquired during the training programme at the camp.

The governor, represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Alhaja Wasilat Adegoke, stressed that the skills acquired at the camp would be useful for the betterment of the society during the service year and beyond. He encouraged the NYSC members to focus on the development of their host communities by identifying and undertaking viable projects that would positively impact the lives of the people.

NYSC members were also urged to seriously consider self-employment after their service and become job creators rather than job seekers. The governor stressed the importance of putting into practice the lessons learnt and skills acquired during the camp to boost entrepreneurship and contribute to the development of the society.

Also, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr. Abel Odoba, called on employers to see the Corps members as future leaders to be shaped and guided towards acceptable standards. He stressed the importance of providing NYSC members with basic conditions such as housing, transportation or allowances as compensation.

NYSC members were on their part encouraged to be dedicated to their duties and make constant efforts to earn good remuneration. The Coordinator stressed on adding value to the certificate obtained by acquiring skills for self-development, while respecting the traditions and culture of the host communities.

In conclusion, this closing ceremony of the NYSC Camp 2024 was an opportunity for the Corps members to receive important advice and encouragement to engage in positive initiatives and become agents of change in their respective communities.
