Logistics Optimization: The New Truck Management System in Lekki-Epe Corridor in Lagos

In a fast-paced world where logistics and infrastructure are key to economic success, innovative measures are essential to ensure smooth operations of business activities. It is against this backdrop that the Lagos State Government is set to implement a Truck Movement Management System in the Lekki-Epe Free Trade Zone Corridor, effective September 23, 2024.

The move is aimed at preventing congestion and improving logistics operations in anticipation of increased truck traffic due to the full commissioning of the Dangote Refinery. The state’s Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, explained that the system will synchronize truck movements accessing the Lekki Deep Sea Port and other industries along the corridor. Road expansion and intermodal transport systems are planned to optimize vehicular movement.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, stressed the importance of compliance with the new system. An interim arrangement has been put in place to decongest the roads by removing illegal tankers from the red zone. The e-call system is designed to regulate the entry and exit of trucks in the Lekki-Epe area by planning and coordinating their movements. This will help avoid chaotic traffic situations caused by uncontrolled parking and movement of trucks.

The Lekki-Epe corridor is a key economic hub, home to many industries such as the Lekki Free Zone, Dangote Refinery and the Lekki Deep Sea Port. Efficient movement of goods and services in the area is crucial to the economy of the state, making the e-call system a vital tool for sustainable development.

By implementing these innovative measures, the Lagos State Government is committed to fostering a conducive business environment and enhancing the efficiency of logistics operations, thereby contributing to the prosperity of the region and its positioning as a major economic hub. This step forward demonstrates a strong political will to catalyse economic development while ensuring responsible management of transport flows in the Lekki-Epe corridor.
