At the heart of national politics, the Labour Party (LP) is at a critical juncture in its history, under the leadership of Senator Nanedi Usman as Acting President. Her inaugural speech resonated as a call for unity and solidarity, values that are crucial to consolidating a strong party determined to conquer elections across the country.
Usman made clear her desire to leave behind a united, strong and invincible LP, capable of achieving significant electoral victories. She stressed the need for reconciliation, integrity and fairness to achieve this ambitious goal.
While aware of the party’s past conflicts, Usman stressed that no one should feel defeated, as the law itself has ruled in favour of all. She urged party members to set aside their differences and work together towards a common goal.
The Caretaker President’s call for unity extends to all members of the party, including figures like Julius Abure, encouraging them to join forces to move the party forward. She warned that those who seek to sow division and strife will be met with prayers, while those who strive for unity will find unwavering support.
The importance of unity is of particular importance to Usman: “No matter how long it takes, those who keep the faith, reason together, fight together from the trenches as brothers in arms and soldiers of freedom are destined to win victories together as conquerors of freedom.”
Professor Theophilus Ndubuaku, the Acting Chairman of the NLC Political Committee, also pleaded for support for the caretaker team, saying: “Come, let us build together. There is no winner, no loser.”
In this turbulent political context, images of party members working hand in hand for unity and political victory take on particular significance. These collective efforts, based on tolerance, cooperation and shared vision, point the way to a promising future for the Labour Party, anchored in an unwavering determination to overcome challenges and achieve significant electoral successes.
