Introduction to tourism in the DRC: an investment for the future

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is a country full of exceptional natural and cultural wealth, and yet the tourism sector remains largely underexploited. It is in this context that the establishment of the introductory tourism course in higher and university education programs in the DRC is giving rise to lively discussions and debates.

The Vice-Minister of National Education and New Citizenship, Jean Pierre Keza Mudru, stressed the crucial importance of this initiative for the professionalization of stakeholders in the tourism sector and the promotion of tourism professions in the country. It is undeniable that training future tourism professionals from an early age is a long-term investment that will contribute to the development of this key sector of the Congolese economy.

The creation of the introductory tourism course from an early age is a visionary approach, because it will allow children to discover the natural and cultural wealth of their country and develop a deep attachment to these national treasures. Through this early awareness, children will be able to become familiar with the concepts of environmental preservation, respect for different cultures and the promotion of Congolese historical heritage.

Furthermore, the Minister of Higher and University Education, Marie-Thérèse Sombo, stressed the importance of the transversality of staff training in the tourism sector. It is essential that future tourism professionals are trained in a holistic manner, integrating technical, cultural and economic aspects for a better understanding and promotion of the sector.

In addition, the Minister of Vocational Training, Marc Ekila, welcomed the initiative of the Ministry of Tourism and stressed that tourism is a sector that generates jobs and income. He also highlighted the importance of professional retraining towards the tourism sector, highlighting the job creation potential that this sector offers.

In conclusion, the introduction of the tourism initiation course in higher education and university programs in the DRC is a promising approach that demonstrates the government’s desire to enhance and promote the country’s tourist heritage. Training younger generations in tourism professions from a young age is an investment for the future, which will contribute to the development of the Congolese tourism sector and the promotion of the DRC destination on the international scene.
