In the news, the tragic incident in the Delta State community has sparked outrage and incomprehension. The loss of 17 officers and soldiers, legitimately engaged in ensuring peace and security, has deeply shocked the nation. The Defence Headquarters has issued a strong statement, promising to relentlessly hunt down those responsible for this heinous act, no matter how long it takes.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has reassured the population at an emergency meeting of the armed forces, police and security agencies. He said the notorious terrorist leader and bandit, Bello Turji, who has boasted of his exploits on social media, will soon be captured. The threats made and the huge sums of money displayed by Turji, derived from ransoms of kidnapped victims, will not go unpunished.

General Musa stressed the importance of collaboration between security forces and local communities to counter the activities of these armed groups. He recalled the essential role of locals in preventing and denouncing criminal acts, stressing that tacit complicity cannot be tolerated. The need to fight together these invisible enemies, who operate unscrupulously within communities, is crucial to ensuring the security of all.

Referring to the recent operation in Okuama, General Musa drew a parallel with the hunt for Osama Bin Laden, stressing that the determination of the armed forces to pursue criminals will not waver, no matter how long it takes. He called for vigilance and cooperation from all to ensure the success of security operations, particularly in the volatile areas of the North-West of the country.

The asymmetry of the war against faceless and unscrupulous enemies makes the task of the security forces particularly difficult. The need to mobilize the whole of society to counter these threats is imperative, in order to prevent these criminal groups from thriving in our communities.

In conclusion, the determination displayed by the authorities to track down criminals and ensure the safety of all is a strong message that must mobilize the whole of society. By joining forces and refusing to give in to fear, we can protect our communities and prevent such tragedies from happening again.
