In the current political landscape, an indisputable reality is emerging: the lack of responsiveness of politicians in place to the suffering endured by citizens. This governmental lethargy has devastating consequences on the population, which finds itself trapped in shameless maladministration.
The observation is bitter: our leaders seem to be plunged into a deep sleep, cut off from reality and insensitive to the needs of those they are supposed to serve. Far from showing empathy towards citizens, they are content to carry out their mandate in a bubble of comfort, superbly ignoring the collective distress. This flagrant disconnect is cruelly manifested when unilateral decisions, such as astronomical increases in the price of gasoline, are imposed on an already suffering population.
Since the elimination of gasoline subsidies in 2023, the situation has gradually deteriorated, plunging families into increasing precariousness. As food prices skyrocket, citizens struggle to make ends meet, feeling abandoned by an indifferent government. And as if to add insult to injury, another sharp hike in the price of gasoline has added insult to injury, without any consideration for the challenges already in place.
The justifications put forward, such as combating smuggling, do not seem convincing. Is it appropriate to burden the already fragile shoulders of citizens with the burden of these problems, when the responsibility of combating smuggling lies with the authorities in power? The lack of transparency and accountability in the management of these critical issues only deepens the sense of disillusionment and distrust that prevails in government institutions.
Meanwhile, our leaders seem to be shirking their responsibilities, playing the game of every man for himself. Evasive statements and attempts to exonerate themselves are evidence of inexcusable political cowardice. It is high time that those who have been elected to represent us assume their duties fully and act in the best interest of the nation.
There is no denying that things must change. Citizens can no longer be victims of a political system that is broken and disconnected from reality. It is urgent that our leaders wake up from their lethargy, show compassion and action for the well-being of all. The time has come to demand accountability, to hold accountable those who have been chosen to represent and serve us, and to create a better future for our nation.
