Sino-African cooperation: a catalyst for development in the DRC

In the context of cooperation between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and China, the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) is of undeniable strategic importance. These cooperation mechanisms help strengthen ties between China and African countries, thereby facilitating economic and social development on the continent.

Over the years, China has proven to be a reliable and committed partner in the development of Africa, of which the DRC is a significant example. Cooperation between the two nations has enabled the realization of numerous infrastructure and development projects, thus contributing to improving the living conditions of the Congolese people.

President Félix Tshisekedi stressed the importance of this cooperation in an interview with the Xinhua News Agency. He highlighted the emblematic achievements of this partnership, such as the Kinshasa ring roads, the Busanga hydroelectric power plant, the Kinsuka substation and the Sakania dry port. These projects, initiated through Sino-Congolese cooperation, have a direct impact on the country’s economic development.

The Kinshasa-Lubumbashi artery project is of major importance in strengthening trade between Congolese regions. Thanks to the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), the DRC has been able to improve the accessibility of its markets for farmers and local traders, thereby promoting the country’s economic and social development.

Chinese investments in the DRC have helped develop the country’s critical infrastructure and strengthen its connectivity with the global economy. President Tshisekedi’s visits to Chinese cities such as Shanghai, Shenzhen and Hong Kong have allowed him to see up close the effectiveness and innovation of the Chinese development model, based on the synergy between technology, finance and governance.

In 2023, China and the DRC decided to elevate their relations to the rank of a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, thus demonstrating the depth and solidity of their partnership. This new step opens promising prospects for strengthening ties between the two countries and the sustainable development of the DRC.

In conclusion, cooperation between the DRC and China, embodied by the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, is an example of a fruitful partnership for the economic and social development of Africa. The projects carried out through this cooperation contribute to strengthening the country’s infrastructure and opening up new opportunities for its development.
