Justice for Christiannah Idowu: The case that shakes consciences

“Justice for Christiannah Idowu: The Tragic Case That Rocks the Country”

The story of the gruesome murder and kidnapping of Christiannah Idowu, a student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), recently sparked outrage on social media. Netizens are demanding justice and the immediate arrest of the alleged killer.

Events took a macabre turn when Adeleye Ayomide, a third-year Philosophy student at the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) and a friend of the victim, confessed to being involved in the crime.

According to a detailed report obtained by our correspondent of the newspaper “Fatshimetrie”, Christiannah Idowu went missing on August 19, 2024. Her parents were contacted by the kidnappers through her WhatsApp account. The first contact with her parents was at around 8:49pm, followed by sending pictures of Christiannah in captivity via WhatsApp ‘view once’ feature.

The kidnappers demanded a ransom of N1,500,000. Christiannah’s parents managed to raise N350,000 immediately. The kidnappers then requested that the money be deposited into a sports betting account via bank deposit (details are currently confidential).

After receiving the money, the kidnappers requested that the sender’s bank statement be sent via email.

On 22nd August, a sum of money was transferred to Christiannah’s GTBank account and later withdrawn to a Wema Bank account belonging to the prime suspect (name currently withheld).

On August 29, intelligence confirmed with the bank that the BVN number linked to the masked betting account belonged to the suspect, who also owns the Wema Bank account.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect withdrew N100,000 from the betting account before operatives could lock it.

Investigators then began looking into the suspect, who had a mutual relationship with Christiannah Idowu, as evidenced by their interactions on Instagram.

The same account number used to launder money from Christiannah’s account had previously been posted on Twitter as part of a competition.

Using the suspect’s phone activity and messages, law enforcement traced him to his parents’ house in Ikorodu. The suspect’s presence at the location was confirmed through active manhunt, and soldiers of the Nigerian Army from the 174 Battalion arrested him.

The suspect’s phone contained details of money transfers, confirming ownership of the betting account. It also revealed a match between his personal email address and the one used to communicate with Christiannah’s family.

After examining the evidence, the suspect was taken into custody for further investigation.

On September 3, the suspect reportedly confessed to both his father and soldiers that he had killed Christiannah and buried her body at his home.

Unconfirmed rumours suggest that the suspect’s ex-girlfriend was killed in a similar manner in 2018, and that his biological sister met the same fate in 2020. Christiannah’s murder in 2024 adds to this disturbing pattern.

When contacted, Lagos State Police spokesperson SP Benjamin Hundeyin said: “The suspect is still in the hands of the military, and the police will intervene once he is in their custody.”

This tragic case highlights the urgency of swift and fair justice for Christiannah Idowu, as well as the need for increased vigilance against signs of violence and criminality. Let us hope that light will be shed on this dark case and that the memory of the young student can rest in peace. #JusticeForChristiannah.
