FRSC Launches Mobile App and NACRIS: Revolution in Road Safety in Nigeria

The launch of the mobile application and the National Crash Reporting Information System (NACRIS) by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) marks a major milestone in the management of road accidents and road safety in Nigeria. The event was attended by influential personalities, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, who hailed the development as a significant milestone in the history of the FRSC.

The digital transformation of the corps’ operational activities is aimed at improving its administration and delivering its mandate more efficiently. The mobile application and the NACRIS are designed to sensitize and inform drivers and passengers on potential causative factors of road accidents, with the aim of reducing the number of fatalities.

The alarming statistics on road accidents in Nigeria underscore the urgency of such initiatives. Between January and December 2023, over 5,000 Nigerians lost their lives and over 31,000 were injured in road accidents. The figures for the period January to July 2024 are not much more encouraging, with over 2,700 deaths and over 16,000 injuries reported.

FRSC Corps Marshal Malam Shehu Mohammed underscored the FRSC’s commitment to implementing policies aimed at improving road safety administration, while aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s Resurgence of Hope agenda. The FRSC mobile application and NACRIS are essential tools in this endeavour, providing users with real-time updates on traffic, accident alerts and road conditions, thereby promoting safer driving.

The presence of various stakeholders at the event, including the Director General of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) and the Kenyan High Commissioner to Nigeria, is testament to the importance of this initiative in the road safety sector. The recognition of the visionary leadership of the FRSC Marshal Corps and the support of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation were unanimously commended, stressing the need to sustain and sustain these projects for the well-being of Nigerians.

In conclusion, the launch of the FRSC and NACRIS mobile application is a major step forward in efforts to reduce road accidents in Nigeria and raise awareness on road safety issues. These tools are part of a holistic approach to accident management, providing users with critical information for more responsible and safer driving.
