Awareness campaign in Kinshasa: evacuation of public rights-of-way for a safer city

Fatshimetrie, September 3, 2024 – The authorities of the commune of Lemba, located in the heart of the city of Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, have launched an awareness campaign aimed at encouraging the evacuation of public rights-of-way occupied by local traders. The mayor of the municipality, Jean Serge Poba, took the initiative to go down to the field to meet with traders and inform them of the implications of this measure.

The main objective of this awareness campaign is to prevent possible road accidents that could result from the illegal occupation of public rights-of-way. Indeed, the security and sanitation of the capital are priorities highlighted by the governor of the city of Kinshasa, and the local authorities have the mission of ensuring that laws and regulations on the urban environment are respected.

Despite the reluctance of some traders to evacuate public rights-of-way, the mayor emphasizes that this measure is essential for their own safety and that of road users. He emphasizes that local authorities are committed to implementing the governor’s directives and ensuring that standards for the occupation of public space are respected.

This awareness campaign is part of the broader efforts of the governor of the city of Kinshasa to clean up the capital, including through the coup de poing operation launched in collaboration with the military engineering service of the armed forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is essential that residents and local stakeholders mobilize to support these efforts and contribute to improving the urban environment.

Ultimately, it is crucial that everyone becomes aware of the importance of respecting the rules and regulations for the occupation of public space in order to guarantee the safety and quality of life of all citizens of Kinshasa. Awareness and collective action are the keys to making the Congolese capital a safe, clean and welcoming place for all.
