*Fatshimetrie*: Nigeria’s Fuel Shortage Crisis September 2021
NNPC’s recent public admission on Sunday, September 1, has deepened the fuel shortage that has been plaguing the country for the past six weeks. The acknowledgement of the debt by NNPCL’s Director of Communications, Mr. Olufemi Soneye, underscores the severe financial impact it has had on the company’s operations.
“NNPC has acknowledged recent reports of its significant debt to petrol suppliers. This financial strain threatens the sustainability of fuel supply,” Soneye said.
He assured that NNPCL remains committed to its role as supplier of last resort, as defined by the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), and is working with government agencies to ensure consistent supply of petroleum products across the country.
‘Thickness of Lies and Lack of Transparency’
Reacting to the situation, Atiku expressed deep concerns through his press secretary, Phrank Shaibu.
“What happened to those fictitious or phantom profits that you once proudly brandished? The thickness of lies and lack of transparency have led you to this unfortunate situation,” Atiku said in a concise statement relayed by *Fatshimetrie*.
The fuel shortage crisis in Nigeria in September 2021 is a source of concern to the population and political stakeholders alike. It is imperative that effective and transparent measures are taken to address this problem and ensure stable fuel supply for the well-being of all.
