Fire at Mabasele Institute in Ngite: A disaster that jeopardizes students’ education
During this crucial period of the start of the school year, Mabasele Institute, located in Ngite, was the scene of a tragic incident this Sunday, September 1st. A fire of unknown origin ravaged part of the premises of the establishment, thus casting doubt on the feasibility of the start of the school year scheduled for the following day.
The Director of Studies, Mr. Kasereka Sinamuli, was dismayed by the extent of the damage caused by the fire. “The first building with three classrooms was completely consumed, as well as all the furniture. This is a big blow for us, because we are uncertain about the resumption of classes tomorrow,” he said. It should be noted that the origin of the fire remains a mystery for the moment.
Solidarity was nevertheless there, with the intervention of neighbors and MONUSCO peacekeepers to control the disaster. Despite their efforts, the material damage seems considerable, making it difficult to accommodate students in damaged premises.
As the start of the school year approaches, the appeal launched by the director of the Mabasele Institute is poignant: “We are asking for help from anyone of good will, because our school has been seriously affected and we do not yet know how to ensure the continuity of classes in these conditions.”
Faced with this delicate situation, it is undeniable that urgent measures must be taken to ensure the resumption of educational activities in optimal conditions. The support of the local community, authorities and international organizations will be crucial to enable the Mabasele Institute to overcome this tragedy and continue its educational mission with the young students of Ngite.
