Immersion workshop in Mbandaka: Strengthening the capacities of magistrates in the fight against corruption

Fatshimetrie, August 31, 2024 – A major event took place in Mbandaka, the capital of Equateur, where a dozen magistrates and legal assistants met for an immersion workshop on ethical values. The objective of this meeting was to raise awareness and strengthen the capacities of participants in the fight against corruption and similar practices.

Under the leadership of Taylor Lompoko Mpela, provincial director of the Observatory for the Surveillance of Corruption and Professional Ethics (OSCEP) in Equateur, this workshop was an opportunity to discuss in depth the theme of corrupt practices and similar acts. It made it possible to address the various issues related to the fight against corruption and to highlight essential strategies to combat this scourge.

Taylor Lompoko stressed the importance of the ratification of the law on the fight against corruption by the DRC, and insisted on the need to implement strategic axes of prevention, detection and repression. He also highlighted the commitment of the Head of State in this fight and encouraged magistrates and judicial officers to become actively involved in this fight.

The presence of magistrate Yannick Mbombo at this workshop was also noted, and he expressed his gratitude for the organization of this work and the opportunity that was offered to strengthen the capacities of justice professionals. He stressed the importance of banning corruption, a phenomenon that hinders the development of the country, and advocated for the continuation of this type of workshops to change mentalities and promote transparency in the justice sector in Ecuador.

This workshop, which is part of the Justice Reform Support Program (PARJ2) implemented by RCN Justice and Democracy in partnership with OSCEP, was a real opportunity for magistrates and legal assistants to strengthen their skills and actively contribute to the fight against corruption. It also highlighted the importance of collaboration and commitment of all stakeholders to promote fair and transparent justice in the DRC.

In conclusion, this workshop was a crucial step in raising awareness and mobilizing justice actors in Ecuador to fight corruption and promote ethical practices. It highlighted the importance of continuing training and the exchange of good practices to strengthen the capacities of justice professionals and contribute to building a more just and equitable society.
