A strategic partnership for the palm oil industry in Nigeria

The recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the National Palm Producers Association of Nigeria (NPPAN) and the Palm Oil Association of Indonesia (GAPKI) in Abuja marks a milestone for Nigeria’s palm oil industry. The agreement aims to provide smallholder farmers with access to knowledge, technology and economic benefits related to palm oil production.

NPPAN Chairman Amb. Alphonsus Inyang noted that the agreement was aimed at boosting the growth of the palm oil industry in Nigeria and establishing mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries. He highlighted the opportunities that this collaboration offers for the economic development of Nigerian smallholder farmers.

On his part, Eddy Martono, Chairman of GAPKI, reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to supporting the growth of the palm oil industry in Nigeria and strengthening bilateral cooperation. Emphasis was placed on the strategic importance of Nigeria as a potential market for the expansion of the Indonesian palm oil industry into non-traditional markets.

Sahabi Muazu, Director of the Indonesian Embassy in Nigeria, expressed optimism about the positive impact of this agreement on the growth of the palm oil industry in Nigeria. He highlighted the investment and development opportunities that this collaboration could provide to both countries.

Lolita Bangun, Deputy Secretary General of GAPKI, highlighted the potential for profitability in the Nigerian market, citing the success of the IndoMie brand in the country. She stressed that the objective of this agreement was to increase palm oil exports to Nigeria to meet the growing demand for this product in the Nigerian market.

In conclusion, the signing of this agreement between NPPAN and GAPKI opens new avenues for the palm oil sector in Nigeria. This cooperation promises to benefit smallholder farmers, the agricultural industry and the economy of both countries, by promoting an exchange of knowledge, technologies and best practices in the palm oil sector.
