Fatshimetrie, August 30, 2024 (AFP).- A major appointment has been announced within the country’s government, with the designation of Mr. Sumbu Sita Mambu as the new High Representative of the Head of State for the monitoring of the Luanda Roadmap and Regional Economic Organizations. This decision was made public following a series of orders issued Friday evening by the presidential spokesperson. Mr. Mambu will thus replace Serge Tshibangu Kabeya, who was dismissed from his duties in this position.
In an official statement, it was specified that Mr. Sumbu Sita Mambu was appointed “High Representative for the monitoring of the Luanda Roadmap and Regional Economic Organizations”, while Mr. Tshibangu Kabeya Serge was dismissed from his post of High Representative for the monitoring of the Luanda Roadmap and the Nairobi process.
Serge Tshibangu, who has held this position since January 2023, has played a crucial role in high-level discussions and meetings on the security crisis in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. His participation in the Luanda and Nairobi peace processes was welcomed, but his dismissal follows a series of changes within the government apparatus.
This appointment comes shortly after the dismissal of Jean-Bosco Bahala, national coordinator of the P-DDRCS last July, which underlines a certain restructuring among the officials involved in the resolution of the ongoing security crisis.
The decision to appoint Mr. Sumbu Sita Mambu represents a new chapter in the evolution of the management of this delicate crisis. Expectations are high regarding his ability to continue the work started by his predecessor and to contribute constructively to the discussions and actions aimed at ending the violence in the region.
This appointment will certainly provoke mixed reactions among the population and the political class, but it demonstrates the authorities’ willingness to take decisive measures to advance the peace and stabilization process in the region.
This is therefore an important turning point in the implementation of the Luanda Roadmap and the commitments made within the framework of the Regional Economic Organizations, with the hope that this appointment will contribute to strengthening efforts for peace and security in the region.
