Fight against Mpox: mobilization in the face of an epidemic in the DRC

Fatshimetrie, August 19, 2024 – A recent outbreak of Mpox, also known as monkeypox, is currently shaking the Kasai region of the Democratic Republic of Congo. According to local health authorities, 16 suspected cases have been reported in the health zones of Kalonda-Ouest, Mushenge, Kamonia, Luebo and Tshikapa.

Provincial Minister of Health Odette Kama Mbokama confirmed these cases and stressed that no deaths have been recorded so far. Affected patients were quickly isolated and treated in suitable health centers to prevent the spread of this highly contagious disease.

To combat this epidemic, strict measures have been put in place, including the isolation of suspected cases and awareness raising among the population. The Minister particularly stressed the importance of washing hands with soap or ash, as well as the need for anyone with symptoms characteristic of the disease to go immediately to a health center for appropriate care.

Monkeypox, a rare viral disease, manifests itself through rashes, pustules and sores, accompanied by fever and fatigue. Health authorities are doing everything possible to contain this epidemic and protect the population.

This situation once again underlines the importance of vigilance and responsiveness in the face of health threats that can arise at any time. Collaboration between authorities, health professionals and the population is essential to deal with such crises and limit their impact on public health.
