Fatshimetrie, August 9, 2024 – The Salesian Visitation Sisters recently concluded an eight-day spiritual retreat in Ifwanzondo, located 15 km from Idiofa, in the Kwilu region of the Democratic Republic of Congo. This general assembly, marked by moments of reflection and deep exchanges, had as its theme “Saint Francis de Salle for a slightly more committed consecrated life”.
Under the inspiring guidance of Reverend Father Amousso Guillaume Habounon, who came specially from Benin, the sisters explored how they can appropriate the spiritual heritage transmitted by European missionaries almost a century ago. This reflection is intended to be anchored in interculturality, inviting the sisters to become committed, free, mature and responsible actors in their mission.
More than 70 sisters from the Salesian Visitation Congregation participated in this event. The Provincial Superior, Sister Françoise Nkung, shares her vision by emphasizing the importance for religious to evolve in a constantly changing world. She highlights the need to witness and act as cornerstones in this ever-changing society.
The Africa leader of the congregation added by emphasizing the importance of interior purification to better serve the Salesian Family of the Visitation and thus respond to the needs of the contemporary world.
In a spirit of celebration and recognition, some members of the congregation will make their first vows this Sunday, August 11, 2024, while others will commemorate their 25 years of consecrated life (silver jubilee) during the mass presided over by Monsignor José Moko, Bishop of Idiofa. This event will mark a significant step in the spiritual journey of these religious committed to the good of the community.
As they conclude this enriching retreat, the Salesian Visitation Sisters begin a new phase of their commitment, full of determination to radiate spirituality and benevolence in a world in constant transformation.
