On this day of August 7, 2024, a crucial step was taken in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo with the launch of preparatory work for the stabilization and recovery project of the region, called “Star Est”. This ambitious project, set up under the leadership of President Félix Tshisekedi, aims to put people back at the heart of public actions with a view to its stability and social well-being.
Deputy Prime Minister Jacquemain Shabani, in charge of the Interior, stressed the importance of this project, which is part of the government’s vision and constitutes an urgent response to the humanitarian and security crisis in the East of the country. The provinces of Ituri, North Kivu and South Kivu will be the main beneficiaries of this program, which focuses on institutional strengthening, improving socio-economic infrastructure and the reintegration of individuals associated with armed groups.
“Star Est” represents a hope for stability and development for a region ravaged by armed conflicts and massive population displacements. The World Bank, with financing of USD 49 million, provides essential support to this project, which is part of a dynamic of restoring peace and state authority in eastern DRC.
The actions planned for 2024, such as the rehabilitation of agricultural roads, the construction of socio-economic infrastructure and the granting of subsidies for income-generating activities, aim to restore hope and dignity to thousands of people affected by conflicts. The objective is clear: to contribute to the stabilization, development and resilience of communities in eastern DRC.
In concluding, Jacquemain Shabani expressed his gratitude to the government’s partners, in particular the World Bank, for their commitment to the implementation of the “Star Est” project. This initiative represents an important step towards building a better future for the people of eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
