New chapter in the episcopate of Wamba: Mgr Sosthène Ayikuli appointed apostolic administrator

The diocese of Wamba, located in the province of Haut-Uele, sees the arrival of a new apostolic administrator in the person of Mgr Sosthène Ayikuli, bishop of the diocese of Mahagi-Nioka. His appointment was made official by a decree of the Pope made public on August 3, 2024 in Kinshasa, according to information relayed by the National Episcopal Conference of Congo (CENCO).

As part of this appointment, Mgr Sosthène Ayikuli takes over the pastoral responsibility of the diocese of Wamba until the new bishop of Wamba takes canonical possession of his functions. This transition follows the renunciation of the pastoral government of Wamba by Mgr Janvier Kataka Luvete, accepted by the Holy Father on August 17. His designated successor is Father Emmanuel Ngona Ngotsi, who has yet to take canonical possession.

Pending the installation of the latter, Bishop Sosthène Ayikuli, as apostolic administrator, ensures the continuity of pastoral work within the diocese of Wamba. His mission is therefore to ensure the smooth running and support of the faithful until a formal handover can be carried out.

This transition within the Congolese episcopate marks an important change for the Catholic community in the region. The appointment of Bishop Sosthène Ayikuli as apostolic administrator reflects the confidence placed in his ability to assume these responsibilities with dedication and competence.

In conclusion, this appointment and these changes within the episcopate of Wamba are significant events for the religious life of the region. They underline the importance of continuity and the commitment of religious leaders in the accompaniment and spiritual guidance of the faithful.
