Lagos Protesters’ Determination: They Will Remain Strong in the Face of Threats

The streets of Lagos, Nigeria, are ringing with a wave of determination and solidarity as protesters, led by Comrade Hassan Taiwo Soweto, refuse to be intimidated by threats from security forces.

In response to the statement by Lagos State Police Commissioner Adegoke Fayoade banning all forms of protest in the area, organizers have decided to temporarily suspend the protests. The move follows a statement by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which Fayoade cited as a response to the protesters’ demands.

However, Soweto has clarified that the suspension was a strategic tactic and not a direct response to police warnings.

“It is our constitutional right to protest peacefully. We have decided to take a day off to assess progress and review our strategy. We will not bow to empty threats,” he said, stressing the group’s determination to continue their fight.

The protesters remain firm in their position, refusing to give in to what they perceive as attempts at coercion by the authorities.

This temporary suspension is seen as a strategic pause, a time to reflect, evaluate and plan the next steps to take. The protesters reaffirm their commitment to defend their rights and demands, whatever the cost.

Civil society and citizens in solidarity express their unwavering support for these courageous protesters who are fighting for justice, equality and transparency. The whole world is watching closely as this situation evolves, reflecting the struggles for democracy and fundamental rights.

The challenges remain, the road is long, but the determination and solidarity of those who stand up for their convictions are glimmers of hope in a world seeking change and progress.
