The University of Information and Communication Sciences (UNISIC), formerly known as IFASIC, is at the heart of an unusual controversy. The staff of this university recently expressed their dissatisfaction with the management of the Kambayi Bwatshia committee, accused of mismanagement and willful destruction of the work tool.
During an extraordinary general assembly, the professors, scientists, administrators and workers of UNISIC unanimously decided to give a 24-hour ultimatum to the management committee to vacate the university offices. Failing which, the staff declares itself ready to start a general strike and even considers legal action against the incriminated officials.
This escalation of tensions highlights the deep disagreements between the UNISIC staff and the Kambayi Bwatshia committee, appointed by the former Minister of Higher and University Education. The accusations of “adulterated” management and the refusal of the committee to address the legitimate concerns of the staff have caused a real showdown within the university.
Faced with this situation, the Government is called upon to take decisive measures to preserve the integrity and proper functioning of UNISIC. The requests for a general audit launched by the university staff reveal the need to assess the financial and administrative situation of the institution in a transparent and impartial manner.
The crisis at UNISIC underlines the crucial importance of good governance and the responsibility of the leaders of public institutions. The issues are not limited to a simple local conflict, but more broadly question the management standards and ethical principles that must prevail within the Congolese education system.
It is imperative that the competent authorities take note of this situation and act in accordance with the interests of the students, teachers and administrative staff of UNISIC. Resolving this conflict will require constructive consultation and a shared desire to restore trust and effectiveness within the university.
