The landmark event of the naval military parade in St. Petersburg, Russia, presided over by Vladimir Putin, drew a strong response from various allied nations, who participated in this annual celebration in honor of the Russian Navy Day.
The naval crews of several allied countries were warmly welcomed by the Russian President, who emphasized Russia’s commitment to strengthening its naval capabilities by acquiring modern, state-of-the-art weaponry. This show of strength and solidarity among allied nations was a central element of the event.
In his remarks, Vladimir Putin expressed his gratitude, saying: “I am delighted to welcome the crews of warships from Algeria, India, China, as well as delegates from various foreign countries who have joined us to commemorate this special occasion.”
The Russian president warned against the US plan to deploy long-range missiles in Germany, comparing it to the Cold War era, and said that Russia would retaliate with similar measures. He warned that if the US persists in such intentions, Russia will no longer respect the unilateral moratorium on the deployment of medium- and short-range strike weapons, and will strengthen the capabilities of its coastal naval forces.
Concluding his speech, the Russian president praised the courage of the navy crews engaged in the conflict in Ukraine, emphasizing their dedication and sacrifice to protect Russia’s interests.
The Russian Navy Day, celebrated on the last Sunday of July, is an ancient tradition dating back to 1696. Although abolished in 1980 by the Soviet Union, this day was restored by presidential decree, and is now marked by a major military parade in St. Petersburg, with the participation of some 200 warships of different classes, as confirmed by the country’s military authorities.
Beyond the impressive naval spectacle, this ceremony illustrates Russia’s desire to strengthen its ties with its allies while affirming its determination to defend its interests and sovereignty against external threats. This annual event is therefore much more than a simple demonstration of military force; it is a symbol of unity and solidarity between nations in a complex and constantly evolving geopolitical context.
