The Importance of Hepatitis Screening in Premarital Testing: Preserving the Health of Couples and Future Generations

Fatshimétrie, July 28, 2024 – Nowadays, marriage is a sacred commitment between two people who decide to travel together for life. However, beyond love and complicity, it is important to take into consideration more pragmatic aspects to ensure the stability and health of the couple. It is with this in mind that future spouses are now invited to undergo hepatitis testing as part of premarital testing, a crucial preventive measure to secure not only their union, but also future generations.

Hepatitis, whether type B or C, is an inflammatory liver disease that can lead to serious complications such as cirrhosis and liver cancer. It is essential to be informed of the risks associated with this viral disease, which can be transmitted by various means such as sexual, blood or from mother to child. Since the symptoms of hepatitis are often discreet or even absent, it is essential to carry out regular examinations to detect any possible contamination at an early stage.

World Hepatitis Day, celebrated on July 28 each year, highlights the importance of raising awareness and preventing this silent disease. This year’s theme, “It’s time to act!”, recalls the urgency of taking concrete measures to combat hepatitis and aim for its eradication by 2030, in line with the WHO strategy. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, where more than 6 million people are affected by some form of hepatitis, it is crucial that the authorities support the National Program to Combat this Disease in order to implement effective prevention and management actions.

Dr. Yav Kasaj, a specialist in Hepato-Gastroenterology at the “Aurore” Foundation, emphasizes the importance of hepatitis screening in premarital tests as a way to preserve the health and well-being of future couples. He encourages future spouses to be proactive in their approach to prevention and mutual protection.

In conclusion, hepatitis prevention should be a priority for everyone, especially those who are about to start a family. By establishing preventive health habits and undergoing regular medical check-ups, we can contribute to a healthier and safer future for all. Since health is the very foundation of happiness and prosperity, investing in the prevention of diseases such as hepatitis is an informed and responsible choice. Let us act together for a world without hepatitis, for the well-being of all.
