Fatshimetrie, July 28, 2024 (F.).- From July 25 to 28, 2024, the 17th edition of the Diocesan Days of Young Catholics of the Archdiocese of Bukavu, in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, was held. This major event ended in style last Sunday at the Saint Jean Apôtre parish of Burhale, located in the territory of Walungu. The atmosphere was filled with faith and enthusiasm, and all the participants left with unforgettable memories.
The Archbishop of Bukavu, Monsignor François Xavier Maroy, had the honor of blessing and planting the symbolic tree of the 2024 edition of the Diocesan Youth Days. This action marked the end of these days rich in emotions and sharing. Eric Baganda, diocesan youth coordinator, highlighted the significant presence of priest chaplains, nuns and many young people who actively participated in these days.
A varied program punctuated these intense days, including preaching on stimulating themes, times of confession conducive to reflection and spirituality, Eucharistic celebrations to strengthen communion and cultural activities such as biblical genius, football matches between young people and priests, as well as songs and dances highlighting the joy and fervor of the participants.
No fewer than 3,500 young people from 42 parishes in the Archdiocese of Bukavu and neighboring dioceses gathered in Burhale, Walungu, to experience these days together under the inspiring theme “Young Pilgrims of Hope” taken from Isaiah 40, verse 31. Throughout this event, the spirit of solidarity, sharing and faith was present, strengthening the bonds between young Catholics in the region.
By planting this symbolic tree at the end of the days, Monsignor François Xavier Maroy reminded participants of the importance of cultivating hope, remaining united in faith and continuing to advance on the path of life with confidence and determination.
These diocesan youth days were therefore an opportunity for participants to recharge their batteries, share their faith and convictions, but also to strengthen cohesion within the Christian community. On this closing Sunday, everyone left with their hearts filled with gratitude and hope, ready to share these precious teachings within their respective parishes. The diocesan days of the youth of Bukavu have thus been inscribed in time as a strong moment of meeting, exchange and fraternity, inviting everyone to continue on the path of faith with confidence and determination.
