In the heart of the city-province of Kinshasa, the atmosphere is slowly but surely transforming thanks to the commitment of the mayors of the communes of Makala, Bumbu, Ngiri-Ngiri and Selembao. These four local authorities recently joined forces at a forum in Bumbu to put in place security strategies aimed at restoring tranquility within their respective jurisdictions.

The deputy mayor of Makala, Longodia Kabongo, took the initiative of bringing together the security services of his commune in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the measures put in place following the forum, and to discuss avenues for improvement. A week after the implementation of these strategies, encouraging signs are beginning to emerge, although challenges remain according to Longodia Kabongo himself.

The actions undertaken have already borne fruit, as evidenced by a resident of the town of Makala, Lionel Mayamba, who highlights the positive changes observed in his neighborhood. Thanks to the installation of hot spots and a reinforced police presence, the crime rate has decreased, although it can still be improved.

Nevertheless, voices are being raised to encourage the authorities to continue and strengthen their efforts. Residents particularly point to the idleness of young people and the excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages sold in the town as factors contributing to delinquency. Some also call for a strengthening of the force of law enforcement to face the scale of security challenges.

The path to lasting peace and strengthened security is strewn with pitfalls, but the determination of mayors and residents to work together to transform their daily lives is a promising sign. By joining forces and implementing concerted strategies, these local communities demonstrate a common desire to build a better, safer and more harmonious future for all.

In a constantly bustling city like Kinshasa, each small victory in the fight against insecurity represents a further step towards a more stable and prosperous society. The collective work of mayors and residents of these neighboring municipalities is an inspiring example of resilience and civic engagement, paving the way for hope and a brighter future for all.
