Fatshimetrie, July 23, 2024 – The significant progress of the 35km rehabilitation project in the town of Mbuji-Mayi, capital of Kasaï Oriental in the Democratic Republic of Congo, is a glimmer of hope for its inhabitants. One year after its launch, the project is already more than 85% executed, demonstrating the commitment of the actors involved in this initiative.
Jean Félix Mutombo, Ir head of technical service at the OVD in Kasaï Oriental, shared during an interview the progress of the work. The Egyptian company Safrimex, responsible for its implementation since July 2022, was able to take the project to heart. While the initial schedule provided for 36 months for its completion, Safrimex has already passed the first 24 months and is on the verge of finalizing the major works. Soon all that will remain are the final touches, such as marking and installing street lights, to make these 35km fully operational.
At the same time, the 140km Tshilejelu project, initiated in 2021 to modernize and rehabilitate urban roads, has experienced ups and downs. Despite an initial contract with the company GREC 7, which was terminated due to delays in execution, the intervention of Safrimex has given new life to this project. With more than half of the project already completed, the Egyptian company shows its efficiency and commitment to improving the region’s infrastructure.
In addition, the 14km rehabilitation project, entrusted to the JMC company, is underway. Although the progress of the work did not follow the initial schedule, progress is notable, demonstrating the perseverance of the teams despite the challenges encountered along the way.
Erosion control works, including resolving historic erosion at Ciombela, have also been a focal point of the renovations. Safrimex’s efforts to stabilize this area have been successful, allowing residents to move around more easily and safely.
In Miabi, the rehabilitation work on 8km of roadways carried out by Safrimex is already well advanced, offering residents better accessibility and a safer road environment. On the other hand, the territories entrusted to the company Toha Investissement will require particular attention to guarantee the quality of the work carried out.
In short, the changing face of Mbuji-Mayi testifies to the transformation underway, thanks to well-led rehabilitation projects and the involvement of companies determined to make a difference. The improvement of local infrastructure will undoubtedly be a driver of development and growth for the community, paving the way for a promising future for this emblematic city of Kasai Oriental.
