An eye-opening government seminar in Kinshasa: Towards responsible governance in the DRC

The government seminar held in Kinshasa in July 2024 marked a major turning point in the way in which ministers of the Democratic Republic of Congo perceive and exercise their responsibilities. Supervised by Prime Minister Judith Suminwa, this event highlighted the need for members of government to ban the exhibition of ostentatious living and to devote themselves fully to their mission in the service of the population.

During her opening speech, Judith Suminwa stressed the importance for ministers to demonstrate exemplary behavior and responsibility in the exercise of their functions. She recalled that the role of a minister is not that of a professional, but of an agent responsible for serving and responding to the needs of the population. This awareness is essential to change mentalities and place the general interest at the heart of government actions.

President Félix Tshisekedi also expressed his expectations of his government team, emphasizing solidarity, discipline and commitment to the government program. He stressed that the success of collective action depended on the cooperation and adherence of all members of the government to the objectives set.

This seminar was therefore an opportunity for the ministers to remember the importance of their mission and to recommit themselves fully to the Congolese people. The three days of reflection and exchanges made it possible to strengthen government cohesion and to specify the actions to be implemented to realize the President’s electoral promises and the government’s priorities.

In conclusion, the government seminar in Kinshasa in July 2024 will remain as a key moment in the political history of the DRC. It laid the foundations for more responsible and committed governance, centered on the needs and expectations of the Congolese people. It is now up to ministers to put into practice the lessons and commitments made during this event to build a better future for the country together.
