Fatshimetrie, July 15, 2024 – At the heart of the week from July 8 to 14, 2024, the National Electricity Company (Snel S.A.) was driven by a visionary dynamic aimed at realizing the president’s ambitions in terms of improving distribution energy across the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
In Kinshasa, a significant step was taken with the final reception of the 220 kilovolt Kinsuka substation, located in the western zone of the capital, in the presence of the authorities during a memorable ceremony. The installation of 68 distribution booths, 11 points of sale and nearly 42,000 prepaid meters in this part of the city promises a notable improvement in service, thus affecting many households.
In Limete, a district of the capital, Snel S.A. continued the deployment of smart meters, offering customers the possibility of paying their bills directly via their telephone, a technological advance to be welcomed.
In the province of Haut-Katanga, in Lubumbashi, a new 50 MVA transformer was put into service at the NR Kasapa high voltage substation, thus making it possible to relieve the UNILU substation and its two medium voltage lines UNILU 1 and UNILU 2. An initiative which aims to guarantee better stability and reliability of energy supply in the region.
In Kisangani, in the province of Tshopo, work to connect cabins in the commune of Lubunga continued, thus offering more possibilities of access to electricity and helping to improve the living conditions of residents.
At the same time, the technical teams of Snel S.A. carried out various interventions aimed at ensuring the proper functioning of the electricity network, including the return to service of the Makala and Campus substations, as well as the Regideso-Ozone feeder after repair work on the 20kV departure.
This dynamic demonstrates Snel S.A.’s commitment to meeting the country’s growing electricity needs, by working for more efficient distribution and wider access to this essential resource. The energy sector in the DRC is changing, and these initiatives demonstrate a strong desire to support this development for the well-being of the population.
