Major cinematographic opportunity for the Democratic Republic of Congo: The Young Francophone Creation Fund 2024

Fatshimetrie, July 8, 2024 – The Democratic Republic of Congo was recently announced eligible for the call for applications for the 2024 edition of the Francophone Young Creation Fund, a unique opportunity for cinematographic and audiovisual work projects. This call will be held in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, from July 5 to 22, providing an important platform for African film talent.

Cultural diversity and creativity are the key words of this call, which invites authors and directors from French-speaking sub-Saharan Africa to present their projects. Eligible countries include, among others, Congo, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Haiti and of course the Democratic Republic of Congo. The formats accepted range from feature films of more than 60 minutes to short films, including TV series and web content, thus covering a wide spectrum of cinematographic creativity.

Since its creation, the Young Francophone Creation Fund has played a crucial role in strengthening the African audiovisual and cinematographic industries, thus contributing to the influence of cultural diversity within the Francophonie. This is evidenced by the projects supported in 2023, such as the fiction series “Afropolitane” by Soraya Milla or the Chadian feature-length documentary “Amchilini, choose me” by Kader Allamine Kora.

One of the essential aspects of this call is support for post-production, offering projects the opportunity to finalize their editing and reach an optimal professional level. This financial assistance, which can go up to 20,000 euros, aims to guarantee that creative cinematographic works are ready for initial exploitation in cinemas. In addition, the partnership with the Yennenga center in Dakar, Senegal, offers support for post-production costs for selected projects.

To participate, directors must be supported by a production company established in one of the eligible states of the Young Francophone Creation Fund. This requirement aims to guarantee professional supervision and ensure the viability of cinematographic projects. The positive feedback from previous editions attests to the importance of this initiative in supporting and promoting African cinema and audiovisual talents.

In short, the 2024 edition of the Young Francophone Creation Fund promises to be an unmissable event for cinematographic creativity in French-speaking Africa. By providing a showcase for emerging talents and supporting cultural diversity, this call contributes to the artistic development and recognition of filmmakers and directors from the African continent..

I am convinced that cinematographic and audiovisual projects from the Democratic Republic of Congo will stand out and shine during this edition of the Young Francophone Creation Fund, thus offering a unique opportunity to highlight the richness and diversity of Congolese culture on the international scene.
