Evacuation operation at Lumumba municipal market in Bandalungwa: local authorities act for safety and cleanliness

Fatshimetrie, July 6, 2024 (FMT).- An evacuation operation took place this Saturday at the Lumumba municipal market in Bandalungwa, in the heart of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The sellers of spices and vegetables, installed on the ground without respecting hygiene and safety standards, were forced to leave the premises by decision of the mayor of the municipality.

Alphonse Ndofula, mayor of Bandalungwa, justified this measure by the non-compliance with the standards in force and the risks to public health and the safety of passers-by, in particular due to the proximity to the public highway. This evacuation follows a series of calls to order against these recurring practices.

At the same time, the mayor also took measures against the containers of the public company DAIPN, unused for several years, occupying a significant space on the market. A deadline was granted to this company to free up the space, with the aim of redeveloping the area and promoting better market fluidity.

This action aims to raise awareness among the inhabitants of Bandalungwa of the importance of respecting hygiene and public health standards, both in their commercial activities and in their personal environment. Municipal authorities also announced support from the Congolese national police to guarantee compliance with these measures, thus ensuring the cleanliness and security of the premises.

The evacuated sellers were directed to the community center to receive appropriate advice before being able to collect their goods. This evacuation is part of a series of actions carried out by the authorities to combat informal markets and non-compliant practices, and demonstrates the desire to guarantee a healthy and secure environment for all residents of the municipality. .

In conclusion, this evacuation operation at the Lumumba municipal market in Bandalungwa demonstrates the firmness of the local authorities in the face of non-compliance with hygiene and safety standards. It invites everyone to take their responsibilities to preserve the cleanliness and health of public spaces, in the interest of all. ACP/C.L.
