The battle for governor in Maï-Ndombe province continues to rage, with the two competing candidates, Aimé Pascal Mongo Lokonda and Nkoso Kevani Lebon, once again due to appear before the Council of State. This situation arises from the recent decision of the high administrative court to annul the election of Nkoso Kevani following a request for rectification of material errors.
According to current developments, the case will be examined this Thursday, July 4, between the two candidates mentioned. In its decision of June 27, the Council of State invalidated the results having proclaimed Nkoso Kevani Lebon as governor of the province.
The court ruled inadmissible the objections raised by the respondent Nkoso Kevani and deemed the appeal of the unsuccessful candidate Aimé Pascal Mongo admissible and well founded, consequently annulling the provisions of the judgment of the Administrative Court of Appeal confirming the election of Nkoso Kevani.
This decision also highlights the cancellation of the publication of the provisional results of the second round by the CENI, which declared Nkoso Kevani governor of the province. This cancellation was motivated by allegations of corruption, kidnapping of deputies and death threats.
Remember that the first round saw the two candidates obtain an equal score of 9 votes out of a total of 18 voters. The second round allowed Nkoso Kevani to win by 10 votes to 9 for Aimé Pascal Mongo.
This situation illustrates the complexity of political issues in the Democratic Republic of Congo and highlights the challenges encountered in the electoral process. It is crucial that justice fully plays its role to guarantee the integrity and legitimacy of electoral processes, as well as to ensure transparency and justice in the exercise of political power.
