The flooded streets of Alagbole: the fight against devastating waters

In a surreal picture of desolation, streets flooded following heavy rains have become veritable rivers, making roads impassable and seriously disrupting the daily activities of Alagbole residents. The deluge, which began in the early hours of the day, quickly overwhelmed drainage systems and flooded streets.

At daybreak, several areas of Alagbole found themselves under water, making it impossible for residents to leave their homes or travel on the roads.

“The lack of passable roads is already causing us considerable stress and inconvenience, because we cannot get to work, and our children often miss school because of this,” says a source who preferred to remain anonymous in the report.

Floodwaters, coming from Ajuwon, a neighboring community, exacerbated the situation, further complicating matters for residents of Alagbole. This highlights the broader problem of an inadequate drainage system that affects several communities in the area.

Adekunle Adebayo, a resident of the area, describes the situation as desperate. “We woke up to find our streets were completely flooded. This happens every time it rains. It becomes impossible to go out. We are trapped most of the time,” he laments.

Many other residents expressed similar sentiments, emphasizing the urgent need to improve roads and install effective drainage systems to prevent such situations.

Local businesses were also affected, with store owners unable to open their doors due to flooded streets.

The economic impact of the floods is already being felt, as the disruption has disrupted business activities in the region.

Market traders and small entrepreneurs are particularly affected, as they depend on daily transactions to sustain themselves.

The Alagbole community is now urging local and state governments to take immediate action to resolve the flooding problem.
