Collaboration between the United States and the Democratic Republic of Congo in strengthening security is at the heart of concerns, as evidenced by the recent meeting between the American Ambassador to Kinshasa, Lucy Tamlyn, and the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Interior, security, decentralization and customary affairs, Jacquemain Shabani Lukoo.

During their exchange, Lucy Tamlyn stressed the importance of strengthening the Congolese National Police (PNC) in order to compensate for the imminent departure of MONUSCO troops. This transition towards an effective police system is crucial to ensure the security of the Congolese populations. U.S. cooperation in this area is essential, as evidenced by the training of more than 600 police officers in the previous year and the construction of 19 police stations across the country.

The American ambassador expressed the desire of the United States to continue this collaboration and to provide assistance to guarantee security in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This declaration demonstrates the commitment of both parties to work together to strengthen the country’s security capabilities.

Furthermore, this initiative underlines the importance of international cooperation in the fight against insecurity and crime, particularly in a context of transition such as that currently experienced by the DRC. The presence of an effective and well-trained police force is essential to ensuring the stability and security of citizens, and cooperation with international partners such as the United States is a major asset in this effort.

In conclusion, the meeting between Lucy Tamlyn and Jacquemain Shabani Lukoo underlines the importance of strengthening the PNC and international cooperation in security matters in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This collaboration demonstrates the commitment of both countries to work together to ensure security and stability in the region, and paves the way for strategic partnerships aimed at strengthening the country’s security capabilities.
