The Congolese Copyright Administration (ADACO) is at the heart of a major restructuring aimed at revitalizing this essential pillar of the protection of intellectual rights. After four years of existence, ADACO finds itself at a decisive turning point in its history, marked by internal challenges and crucial issues for the future of copyright management in this African country.
The recent ordinary general meeting, which took place on June 29, highlighted the difficulties that ADACO must face. Faced with a certain administrative burden and management shortcomings, the former committee chaired by Professor Balufu Bakupa Kanyinda was suspended for incompetence and passivity. This unanimous decision of the founding members reflects the desire for renewal and relaunch of ADACO, in order to position it as a major player in the protection of copyright in Congo.
In this dynamic of renewal, a provisional Normalization and Revitalization Committee (CONOR) was formed, under the coordination of Maître Glody Muabila, assisted by Lionel Kabeya and Patrick N’loso. This team’s mission will be to restore the credibility and effectiveness of ADACO, while establishing new strategies to achieve its objectives of liberalization of the copyright sector.
Beyond these internal issues, ADACO plays a crucial role in the protection of copyright and the promotion of intellectual creation in the Democratic Republic of Congo. By bringing together authors, copyright holders and rights holders from various artistic horizons, ADACO plays an essential role in the recognition and promotion of intellectual works, whether they relate to architecture, literature, music, cinema, fashion or other forms of artistic expression.
Through its mission of raising awareness and protecting intellectual rights, ADACO is a key player in the promotion of cultural and artistic creation in the Democratic Republic of Congo. By working closely with the political-administrative authorities and working for the liberalization of the copyright sector, ADACO is committed to defending the interests of creators and promoting an environment favorable to artistic development.
In short, the revival of ADACO symbolizes a new chapter in the history of copyright management in Congo. By reaffirming its commitment to creators and the protection of intellectual property, ADACO positions itself as a key player in the Congolese cultural scene, ready to meet the challenges of the present and to actively contribute to the emergence of a thriving and dynamic cultural industry.
