Fatshimetrie had the privilege of covering the flagship sporting event of the day of June 30, 2024 in Lubumbashi: the “Grand Prix de l’Independence”, a cycling race organized by the Lubumbashi Cycling Entente in collaboration with the Foundation on Godfather directed by Passy Mukoma the Godfather. Against the backdrop of the commemoration of the 64th anniversary of the Democratic Republic of Congo’s accession to independence, this competition brought together more than 70 runners from different categories.
The start and finish of the race were marked by an electric atmosphere on Avenue du 30 Juin, near the Kiwele complex in Lubumbashi. The participants, senior ladies, gentlemen, junior juniors and veterans, set off on a demanding course, mixing straight lines and technical turns.
The competition was divided into two events: a grand tour of 80 km covering the main arteries of the city, and a closed circuit from Kilela balanda to N’djamena. To mark the 64th anniversary of independence, Passy Mukoma the Godfather, in association with Samy Sidis of the Lubumbashi Entente, offered exceptional prizes, including a new Mini Cooper car and motorcycles.
The intensity of the competition and the enthusiasm of the public gave this event an exceptional dimension. The sustained training of the runners, the mobilization of local clubs, as well as the generosity of the organizers contributed to making this edition of the “Grand Prix de l’Independence” a real success.
Beyond the sporting competition, this cycling race made it possible to celebrate the independence of the Democratic Republic of Congo in a dynamic and festive way. It brought together the cycling community and the inhabitants of Lubumbashi in a surge of solidarity and national pride.
