Kinshasa, June 28, 2024 (Fatshimétrie). The issue of training high-level engineers for the industrialization of the Democratic Republic of Congo was at the heart of discussions during the conference organized in Kinshasa by the body of the scientific elite of the Union for Democracy and social progress (UDPS).

Professor Jean-Marie Beya, cabinet director at the Ministry of Hydraulic and Electronic Resources, stressed the crucial importance of training more engineers to stimulate industrialization, a key factor in wealth creation and the country’s development. According to him, the number of engineers per capita is directly linked to a country’s gross domestic product (GDP), highlighting the essential role of engineers in social and economic growth.

UNESCO identifies engineers as the holders of technology, essential to social and economic prosperity, the fruits of the wealth generated by industries. Furthermore, development, measured by indices such as access to water, electricity, quality infrastructure and an efficient health system, relies on the skills of high-level engineers.

Thus, the creation of polytechnic and engineering schools in the DRC is strongly recommended to train a new generation of qualified engineers committed to the development of the country. Comparing the situation with France, which has more than 200 engineering schools, Professor Beya insists on the need for the Congolese authorities to invest in education and research to support the industrialization of the country.

For her part, the Minister of Higher and University Education, Pr. Marie Thérèse Sombo, highlighted the importance of professional hygiene in a context of growing industrialization. Worker health and safety at work are essential elements to ensure sustainable and equitable development.

President Félix Tshisekedi’s vision of making the DRC a developed and industrialized country is at the heart of concerns, and the creation of a framework conducive to the flourishing of the engineering and industrial sectors is essential to achieve this. .

In conclusion, the conference on “the fundamentals for effective and sustainable industrialization of the DRC” underlined the urgency of training more high-level engineers and promoting professional hygiene to support the industrial development of the country. This initiative is part of a process of progress and innovation, necessary to meet the economic and social challenges facing the DRC. The road to a prosperous and sustainable future undoubtedly involves investing in education and promoting local skills.
