The city of Bunia, located in the heart of Ituri province in the Democratic Republic of Congo, has reached an important milestone with the officialization of its administrative map. This unprecedented initiative puts an end to the territorial boundary conflicts that have long pitted urban and customary authorities of the surrounding entities against each other.

Divisional Commissioner Raüs Chalwe, Deputy Police Governor of Ituri, spoke with pride at the ceremony marking the conclusion of this project launched six months ago. He stressed the importance of this crucial step in establishing the precise boundaries of the city of Bunia, thus putting an end to years of disputes and confusion.

The involvement of the NGO Mwangaza peace and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) was essential in the success of this project to resolve administrative boundary conflicts. Their technical expertise and financial support made it possible to achieve this major objective in record time.

The leadership of the police vice-governor and the commitment of the various stakeholders were praised by the UNDP acting head of office, Axel Kitoga. He stressed the importance of this approach for the stability of Ituri province and reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to supporting the efforts of the provincial government.

The police mayor of Bunia, Senior Superintendent Jean-Bosco Mbui, stressed the importance of this administrative delimitation for peace and social cohesion within the population. He called for the consolidation of these achievements in order to avoid unnecessary conflicts and preserve the well-being of the inhabitants.

The coordinator of the NGO Mwangaza peace, Ms. Gloire Mongo, highlighted the need to continue efforts to resolve administrative delimitation conflicts within Ituri province. She called on all stakeholders to prioritize the common interest to ensure lasting peace in the region.

The implementation of this project, the result of fruitful collaboration between provincial authorities, international partners and local communities, paves the way for a more peaceful and harmonious future for the city of Bunia and its surroundings. This significant progress demonstrates the desire of all to build a better future for the province of Ituri.
