Citizens of Ibadan, Nigeria, have been shaken by the recent case involving six individuals accused of conspiracy, threatening life and disruptive behavior. The accused, Olujinmi Oguntoyinbo, Olawumi Oladipo, Musa Atiba, Mariam Abdullahi, Agboola Ayodeji and Timileyin Fawise, appeared in court without giving their home addresses. The alleged acts date back to March 6, around 8 p.m., in the Adeoyo district of Ibadan.
The prosecutor, ASP Amos Adewale, said the accused allegedly made death threats against Chief Funmilayo Obisesan, armed with machetes, stones and other dangerous objects, including a container of red oil. These acts are in violation of sections 516, 418 and 249 of the Oyo State Penal Code dating from the year 2000.
The defendants pleaded not guilty in court. In view of this situation, Justice Maruff Mudashiru granted bail of 100,000 naira to each of the accused, in addition to requiring a surety for each of them with an equivalent amount.
This case, although disturbing, raises questions about citizen safety and the need to maintain public order.
