Problem of blocking freight wagons: a brake on the economy of Kasai-Oriental

Fatshimetrie recently highlighted a worrying situation concerning freight wagons blocked in SNCC stations in Luena and Bukama, located in the Haut-Katanga province. This problem directly affects economic operators in Kasai-Oriental, who find themselves in an impasse even though transport costs have been paid for five months now.

The voice of alarm was raised by the provincial director of the Federation of Congolese Enterprises (FEC) Kasaï-Oriental, Dominique Ilunga, who highlighted the considerable delay in the delivery of goods from Lubumbashi to Mbuji-Mayi. The goods loaded into the wagons have still not reached the Mwene-Ditu railway station, which directly impacts local economic operators.

It is worrying to note that some wagons, such as 12 716-8 and 12 876-9, have been parked at Kanyama station for more than five months, without concrete actions being taken to resolve this situation. The aggrieved economic operators thus expressed their dissatisfaction to the FEC, imploring emergency intervention to unblock this logistical impasse.

The SNCC/Kasaï-Oriental authorities were asked to react to this problem which hampers commercial activities and harms the fluidity of trade between regions. It is essential that measures are taken quickly to ensure the efficient delivery of goods and restore the confidence of economic operators in the rail transport services offered by SNCC.

This situation highlights the logistical challenges faced by economic actors in Kasai-Oriental, highlighting the need for coordination and effective communication between the different actors in the transport sector in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is imperative that sustainable solutions are implemented to ensure optimal operation of rail transport services and promote the economic development of the region.
