On Wednesday June 26, 2024, Prime Minister Judith Tuluka Suminwa began an official visit to Goma, the capital of the North Kivu province. Despite a busy schedule, she took the time to interact with various active forces, including women’s associations, citizen movements and other representatives of the local population.

In a voice full of compassion, Judith Suminwa stressed the importance of her maternal dimension, even within her political functions. “Before occupying the post of Prime Minister, I am a wife, a mother, a sister… I can imagine the difficulties of those who struggle to send their children to school, to feed them…,” she said declared. She called for resilience in the face of these challenges.

The active forces present shared their concerns with the head of government, expressed through memoranda. Judith Suminwa promised to carefully examine each file, with particular emphasis on displaced people in precarious situations.

She also addressed the security challenges facing the region, citing persistent problems linked to armed groups like the M23 and tensions with Rwanda. The Prime Minister underlined the President of the Republic’s commitment to strengthening the Congolese armed forces (FARDC) to face these threats.

In a strong gesture, Judith Suminwa mentioned Rwandan President Paul Kagame, criticizing his recent statements. “When those who didn’t speak start to speak out, it’s a sign of problems at home too…” she said. This position demonstrates the Prime Minister’s determination to defend the interests of her country.

Ahead of this meeting with the active forces, Judith Suminwa held a meeting with the provincial security committee, in the presence of ministers and national deputies. This busy day illustrates the Prime Minister’s commitment to addressing the multiple challenges facing North Kivu, while demonstrating a desire for dialogue and peaceful resolution of conflicts.

This visit by Judith Suminwa to Goma marks an important step in her desire to understand local realities and to work hand in hand with the various stakeholders to guarantee the security and well-being of the inhabitants of North Kivu.
