**Rwanda: Massive military presence in North Kivu**

In the year 2024, Rwanda faces disturbing revelations concerning the massive deployment of nearly 4,000 soldiers in the unstable province of North Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo. According to a confidential UN report revealed by the Canadian media “Globe and Mail”, these Rwandan soldiers would be equipped with modern weapons, thus creating a situation of tension and uncertainty in the region.

According to reports, this massive presence of Rwandan troops could even outnumber the M23 rebel militia that they support. The objective of this deployment appears to be to strategically control the region by suffocating the city of Goma and seeking to extend their influence over several surrounding cities and towns.

Rwandan soldiers took up positions on strategic sites, including the hills surrounding Saké, located 25 kilometers from the city of Goma, capital of North Kivu. This military occupation legitimately raises concerns about the stability of the region and the humanitarian consequences for local populations already weakened by years of armed conflict.

Despite the seriousness of the situation, it is important to emphasize that this UN report has not yet been officially made public, but was submitted to the Security Council in June 2024. This revelation thus raises numerous questions about Rwanda’s real intentions in the region and calls for concerted international action to prevent any escalation of tensions and protect innocent civilians trapped in this delicate situation.

It is essential that the international community remains vigilant in the face of this rise in military power in North Kivu and ensures that peace and security are preserved in a region already severely affected by conflicts. Only diplomatic measures and strengthened international cooperation will be able to defuse this potential time bomb and offer a prospect of stability and development to an entire population which legitimately aspires to peace.
