Fatshimetrie, June 23, 2024 – The Faculty of Law of the University of Kinshasa recently organized a conference-debate aimed at honoring the memory of two eminent professors of constitutional law, Victor Jean-Claude Djelo Empenge-Osako and Augustin Kitete Kekumba Omombo. These two iconic figures of the Democratic Republic of Congo have profoundly marked the field of constitutional law through their remarkable academic contributions.
During this conference, under the theme “Crossed perspectives on the object of constitutional law”, Professor Dieudonné Kaluba, head of the department of internal public law, underlined the importance of revisiting the legal controversy surrounding the field of constitutional law. and to highlight the significant developments it has undergone. This initiative aims to pay tribute to Djelo and Kitete by highlighting the impact of their work on the discipline.
Professor Jean-Louis Esambo, dean of the faculty of law, insisted on the need to publish mixtures in honor of these two eminent professors, stressing the importance of preserving and disseminating their intellectual heritage among law students and researchers.
To enrich the debates, two panels were formed around the themes of legal controversy in constitutional law and current constitutional repressions. The interventions of Professors Jean-Louis Esambo, Evariste Boshab, Jacques Ndjoli and Barthélémy Omeonga made it possible to explore these crucial questions in greater depth and to breathe new impetus into research in this area.
Through their respective doctoral theses, Djelo Empenge and Kitete Kekumba have made essential contributions to thinking about the State and political power. Their work has left its mark on generations of jurists and contributed to the development of legal sciences in the DRC.
